Develop New Jersey's Workforce & Spur Economic Growth

“Higher education is indispensable to a thriving economy and an inclusive society.”

Report of the New Jersey Higher Education Task Force

It is estimated that nearly 75 percent of positions created through 2018 in New Jersey will require postsecondary training. To ensure a college-educated workforce with the skills business demands, the report recommends the following:

  • Colleges and universities should reach out to local school districts with summer and weekend programs that help students apply to and succeed in college.
  • New Jersey should increase capacity in state institutions of higher education to enroll capable students who want to stay in New Jersey.
  • Each institution should develop an action plan for increasing the number of out-of-state students.
  • New Jersey should reestablish the Commission on Science and Technology.
  • Rutgers should work more closely with the state’s business community.
